The Power of the Mind

JUNE 4, 2022

It is no secret that our mind is the most powerful and indispensable tool we have at our disposal.

Below, we will take a brief look at the colossal power of the mind and the unbreakable links it shares with personal growth and physical health, as well as achieving quantifiable, measurable success.

Personal Growth

The concept of personal growth is something we are all familiar with, and it has been widely acknowledged by both ancient and contemporary philosophers that the objective of life is to engage in a continuous, ongoing journey towards becoming the best person we can be, rather than striving for any strictly-defined destination. However, how often in our busy lives do we really stop to consider the ways in which personal growth can actually be achieved?

The most vital thing to remember is that growth – above all else – is a state of mind which is not necessarily accompanied by tangible results. Indeed, many leading thinkers agree that the keys to true personal growth and empowerment are self-acceptance and contentment, and that demonstrating this kind of emotional intelligence is, in fact, much more important than our IQ.

The bottom line is that if you can train your mind to realise its own abilities and appreciate the fact that it is capable of extraordinary things, you have already won the biggest battle towards achieving personal growth. Without this knowledge, and without a genuine desire to continually improve as a person, self-actualisation will never be attained.

Physical Health

Some people believe that the mind and the body are separate entities, capable of functioning and excelling with complete independence. Those who have reached the pinnacle of either mental or physical success, however, will almost unanimously agree that the two concepts are not just complementary, but necessarily intertwined with each other.

Picture, for example, the world’s greatest sportsmen and women; how often are stars like Roger Federer described in terms such as ‘cool, calm and collected’? Conversely, we can all think of instances when previously great athletes seem to have become lost in their personal lives and then seen their sporting form completely evaporate.

As with all areas of life, maintaining a positive frame of mind and ensuring your mental capabilities are regularly stimulated and challenged is not just a ‘nice-to-have’, it is essential to achieving good physical health.

Arenas of success

Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and realising your own is an important step towards true contentment. However, whether your primary motivation in life is achieving highly in business, academia, the sporting world, or any other arena of success, there is one instrument which we all need to function to the best of its ability in order to reach our targets: the mind.

Whatever you are striving towards, it is always the case that mentally visualising your goals as already accomplished is a simple, fundamental, and proven way of achieving them. It may seem too good to be true but internalising your dreams of success as reality really works. Of course, visualisation is never enough on its own – it is imperative to remember that focus, discipline and genuine commitment are also needed to translate your imagined achievements into truth.

One of the best things about life is that, regardless of our level of academic intelligence, we are all equipped from birth with the tools we need to unlock our mind’s awesome potential and become the best in our chosen field(s).

It may sound like a common refrain, but it is nevertheless true: when it comes to harnessing the power of the mind, if you believe you can – you will!
